A lot of the writing that I do comes from a place of curiosity.
I’ve learned in recent years that writing about a subject tends is the best way for me to learn more about it.
On one hand, for longer pieces, I need to do research. The learning in this aspect is obvious.
However, I find that the act of writing in general tends to solidify concepts in my mind. As I string together letters into words and words into sentences, my mind strings together loosely connected ideas into something of substance.
Quite often I’ll start writing about something that I don’t yet have an answer for. And after a couple hundred words, somehow I find what I’m looking for.
It’s as if the answer is already within me, fragmented and scattered throughout my mind.
I hear the same thing from countless other writers. There’s something about the act of writing finds the pieces and puts them together.
It doesn’t always work.
But considering there is no downside to trying, there’s no reason not to try.
