I heard a fantastic analogy the other day.
Consider your mind as an operating system. When was the last time you had a software update?
Our ecosystem is constantly evolving. New hardware, protocols and interfaces are introduced continually. In order to function properly, your software needs to be running the latest version.
This isn’t about conforming. It’s about understanding.
You can always choose which applications to run and how you want your system to behave.
But if you’re running on outdated information, you will encounter inevitable conflicts that you aren’t able to navigate. Your options for experience will be limited at best. At worst, interactions will be unsupported altogether.
Going through life with blinders on is like running depreciated software. And the longer you go without the latest iteration, the harder the upgrade process will be on your system.
