Sometimes I forget how good it feels to have a nice, long uninterrupted sleep. It doesn’t happen often.
On days that I work at my day job, I rarely get more than 6 1/2 hours. I can function perfectly well on six, but it’s still not ideal. On other days, I can usually get closer to eight. The problem is that I’m a restless sleeper and if I happen to wake up in the night, my mind goes wild and I have trouble falling back to sleep.
That’s a long winded way of saying that I am generally sleep deprived — at least compared to what is ideal.
And I don’t think I’m alone in this.
Last night was a good one, because yesterday, I exhausted myself. Between physical exercise, mental focus, and several appointments, I was drained by the end of it all. I hardly remember hitting the pillow, and I slept for 9 straight hours.
So while I can function just fine on six hours of sleep, it isn’t until I am truly rested that I remember what functioning well actually feels like.
Stop fooling yourself into thinking that you get enough sleep. Because you probably don’t.
