Pretty Good

People occasionally tell me that I’m a pretty good photographer. After saying thanks, I’ll mention that they haven’t seen the ones I didn’t share.

I often joke that the key to being a good photographer is to simply take as many pictures as you can, and pick out the handful of decent photos. Of course, there is much more to truly becoming a great photographer.

But there’s still something to that logic.

Shakespeare wrote 38 plays in his lifetime, Mozart composed over 600 songs, Thomas Edison held nearly 1100 patents, and Van Gogh produced over 2000 pieces of artwork.

These people are widely regarded as geniuses of their craft, gifted with superhuman abilities.

But were they? Or did their collection of work grow so large that a few hits were inevitable.

With study and years of practice, you can become an incredible photographer, the kind that is guaranteed to strike gold in every session — something I am certainly not.

Still, if you’re like me, and you just take enough shots, you can be a pretty good one.
