Jaywalking as a crime is one of my biggest pet peeves.
In most countries I’ve travelled to, you cross the road wherever you want. If you’re ignorant enough to walk in front of a car, that’s on you.
The fact that where I live you can be ticketed for crossing an empty street at the wrong spot is beyond silly.
Thankfully, I’ve never been pinched for this — even though I break the rule regularly. Still, the mere idea that I can be punished for a victimless crime irritates me.
In a world where police departments are stretched thin and dealing with rising crime, they’re still wasting resources punishing people for crossing the street.
Sometimes I rant.
