Heatwave

There’s a city in Colombia known as the City of Eternal Spring. I lived there for a bit. And the name holds true. The temperature rarely fluctuates beyond 20 or 25 degrees Celsius.

But I’m not there right now.

I live in a place where the temperature varies significantly throughout the year. Winters will regularly hit -35C and colder, while summers peak in the mid 30’s. I can’t think of many other spots on Earth that swing over 70 degrees from summer to winter.

I find winter the worst. I am not a cold-weather person.

I get the argument that you can dress accordingly and keep warm, but this only goes so far — and is entirely task-dependent.

Right now, we’re undergoing a righteous heatwave.

And as uncomfortable as it can be at times, I’m loving it.

When it gets this hot, things are generally bearable in the mornings and evenings. The temperature tends to vary significantly.

In the deep freeze of winter, this isn’t the case. When it gets to the -35 range, you’re lucky if it varies a degree or two.

So while the heavy, 34-degree heat makes activities a little slow and uncomfortable, I can take solace in the fact that the air isn’t crystalizing the moisture in my skin.
