Fine Print

The catch is always hidden. You need to be vigilant.

How often do you read the terms and conditions of a new app? If you’re like most people, it’s probably close to never. If we read through every detail of every contract of every app we use, we’d run out of time.

However, when it comes to financial documents, it’s a little more important.

Someone close to me recently lost a relatively large sum of money. It was based on a specific type of bank account that came with significant, though specialized benefits. The problem is that if one withdraws the money under certain conditions — very normal, regular conditions — they pay a significant fee.

The fee is a considerable caveat to the benefits of the account, but its only mention was buried in the depths of the fine print.

And while, in my opinion, this cheeky little move is borderline criminal — the fault ultimately fell on my friend who signed the agreement.

So, lesson learned, I’m passing it on to you.

Don’t brush off the fine print.
