Nerd Alert
This is a bit of a nonsense post. But I recently watched Oppenheimer, and while I loved it, I am disappointed by a miss.
As expected from Christopher Nolan, the movie is spectacular.
And given the run time, I understand why some actors and their scenes didn’t make the final cut.
But I’m a little surprised that Richard Feynman didn’t get more screen time. The actor that played Feynman, Jack Quaid, has made a name for himself in recent years — notably in The Boys and in Plus One (a rom-com that is actually good).
Aside from the fact that Quaid has the chops, his role as Feynman is all but omitted from the film.
I had the pleasure recently of reading Feynman’s autobiography “Surely you’re joking, Mr. Feynman.” He has since risen in the ranks of my favourite people. Not just because of his long-term influence, but in his wit and charm — uncharacteristic in his field. He’s one of the most clever and interesting people I’ve ever become aware of.
As far as the movie is concerned, at a runtime of 3 hours I can only imagine that tough cuts were made regarding actor’s screen time. But the fact that Feynman was included in the movie but his character was not portrayed, is a flaw in an otherwise perfect film.
