Fanatical

I’ve never been a sports guy. Occasionally I’ll hop on the Oilers bandwagon when they’re in the playoffs but that’s about it. The comradery makes it exciting.

Aside from those few moments, team sports — and the frenzy surrounding them — have never interested me.

I’m a solo sport guy. Bikes mostly. Everything is in my control, and I don’t have a bunch of fanatics expecting things from me. It’s all about my expectations and enjoyment, nobody else’s.

Over the last few months, however, I’ve dipped my toes into unfamiliar turf — Premier League football. So far it’s been exciting and shockingly enjoyable.

But I don’t fit in with the crowd. I’m still just a simple fan. My emotions don’t run hot.

Some of the fans that I see, in sports of all kinds, can be absolutely fanatical. It’s one thing to support your team, but the obsession and occasional violence is something I simply can’t fathom.

Still, I’m learning to appreciate it in my own way.

Also, Arsenal is the greatest football club in history and if anyone disagrees with me they are delusional.
