Every Day New

Every time you see somebody they’re a different person.

I was recently reminded of the old quote from Heraclitus, “No man ever steps in the same river twice, for it’s not the same river and he’s not the same man.”

I love this quote so much.

It’s such a humbling reminder that we’re never perfected. We’re an ever-changing work in progress.

Who you were yesterday is different than who you are right now.

And it’s the same for everyone else.

We’re always changing.

Holding this idea close is so powerful in letting go of resentment and malice towards others for the pain they’ve caused in the past.

It doesn’t excuse their behaviour at the time. But it acknowledges that they may not be that person today.

It’s easier to hold on to bitterness towards the past, than it is to accept that every single moment is a new beginning.
