I cried in the theatre today — several times.
Not outright bawling, but tears were shed.
I’ve been a fan of the X-Men since childhood, with Wolverine being my favourite. Adjacent to the X-Men, Deadpool was next. I was just old enough to grasp the contradiction between his hilarious sarcasm and his equally violent nature.
The two characters share a background and a phenomenal history within the Marvel Comics universe. And while I sold most of my collection years ago, I kept everything from these two.
I still own the original copy of Deadpool #1 that I purchased new way back in 1993.
Deadpool and Wolverine is a movie that I’ve been waiting over 30 years to see. And from the moment it was announced, my anticipation has grown. I went into this movie with hopes and expectations unlike any movie before.
And it blew everything away.
There is no such thing as a perfect movie.
And for regular viewers, I can understand that it may seem little more than another really great Deadpool movie.
Because this movie was made for the true fans.
And this fan will sleep happily tonight.
