Bikes are vehicles.

I see and hear a lot of comments attacking bikes on the road. They claim that bikes don’t belong on the road, and that they should stay on the sidewalk and stop affecting traffic.

But it doesn’t work that way.

Bikes, whether you like it or not, belong on the road — by law. And, as someone who spends a lot of time on a bike, I would love to avoid dealing with cars on the busy streets. But it’s either that or risk getting a ticket for riding on the sidewalk.

The irony is that most people who criticize bikes on the road are the same people who criticize bike lanes.

And I get it, there are a lot of bad riders out there who ruin it for everyone.

But until the law changes, you’ll have to deal with bikes on the road.
