I don’t recall the context but I believe he is referring to meditation and the inevitable storm of thought that clouds the process. However, the concept applies to anything.

We build borders around our perceived abilities based on poor performance. We judge our current self based on actions of the past and limit our future self in the process by doubting our potential.

Starting fresh is always an option. Regardless of past mistakes or failures, you can always begin again.
