Bear Anxiety

I have been sleeping terribly since returning from San Francisco. My wife has had similar nights. This is not normal. Typically following a weekend that involves an excess of food and drink, our bodies take every advantage to recharge.

But not this time. This time it’s anxious thoughts the second my head hits the pillow. When I finally sleep, I’m soon awakened by vivid dreams that induce more anxiety… and the cycle continues.

My wife asked me yesterday, “Maybe it’s because we’re watching The Bear.”

This is probably true.

I mentioned a few posts back about The Bear and how it so accurately represents the lives of those working in a professional kitchen.

Every single episode is an emotional rollercoaster with an emphasis on jet-fuel-fired anxiety for anyone who has lived the experience.

It’s the greatest television show in history to accurately depict what it’s like to work in such an environment — from a dive sandwich bar to a Michelin-starred restaurant. Having spent many years working somewhere in the middle, the flashbacks are real for both of us.

Whether it’s the cause of the sleep loss or not, I will not stop watching.

It’s just too good.
