Analog

There’s something special about going analog.

Jack White has made it the foundation of his musical career. He uses traditional analog recording gear and prioritizes the sound for vinyl.

In the digital age, we often miss out on certain elements from the old ways. The raw sound of a vinyl record, or the way that film photography tends to capture the emotion of a moment far more than merely the moment itself. The feeling when we turn the pages a physical book.

For some, it’s nostalgia. But for the rest, it’s more. But it’s hard to put a finger on it.

I’ve recently steered away from my planning apps in favour of a hand-written journal. And I’ve noticed a mental shift for the better.

The physical act of writing pen on paper triggers something within. Far more than smacking keys on a keyboard.

Since going analog in that part of my life, I’ve not only been more productive, but I’ve also had a greater sense of contentment with my work.

As much of a tech optimist as I am, I’ll always save some space for the classics that work as they are.
