Finding Time

It’s been a minute since I posted anything here. The last few months have disappeared on me.

Between my day job, client work, personal projects, and travel, it’s been difficult to focus my energy towards writing for fun.

But the muse surprises, often showing up at the most inconvenient of times. Even when I note the thoughts down, the inspiration is lost by the time I have a chance to sit down and write.

Those thoughts that felt so profound in the moment are gone. The list of ideas are nothing to me. Their meaning — however profound they were at the time — have shifted from a vision of clarity to a hazy cloud of confusion, followed by a vague memory of meaningful nothingness.

During my year of daily writing, I gave myself no choice. I sat down and typed. That was my focus. Not every post was good, some days I spouted utter nonsense just to get the work done, but I spouted nonetheless.

Casual writing is harder. It demands a mood.

Now, for example. I should be packing for a biking trip in the morning, but while looking for my packing list, I found this unfinished post with little more than a title and a couple of sentences left from a moment of failed inspiration.

And it pulled me in.

I have nothing profound to say, but lightning struck, so here I am.

It feels good.

I need to spend more time exercising this muscle.
