These Days Happen

It happens sometimes. Things just don’t work out.

I woke up exhausted. I probably should have slept more, but I had a deadline.

Things started fine. Everything was going fairly well. After a bit of housekeeping, I went for a run. Then settled in to get to work.

This is when things started to get a bit off.

The deadline for this project is in two days. And tomorrow I work my day job. I foolishly expected the transfer of things to go smoothly, as they usually do.

Software issues on the client’s side of things threw a wrench in the gears. I spent far too much time sorting this out. And then, just as I’m about to get back to the project, my mouse battery dies.

Of course it fucking does.

So I head out for groceries — I need to do this anyway.

Three different shops are out of a particular ingredient. And while this isn’t a life-or-death issue, it’s another wrench.

Back home, mouse charged, I get back to work. And a new software update renders my usual override code useless. This tossed my entire game plan out the window.

So I walked away from the computer to take a much needed break, and started preparing supper.

I turn on the BBQ and work on some general food prep. Then I head back to the office to tackle things while I wait for the BBQ to heat up. And when I return to throw the food on — it’s cold.

The propane tank is empty.

And I’m fine with this. I have a spare. Enough things have enraged me today that I’ve run out of rage. I swap the tanks, turn it back on, and go back to the office to do whatever I can to sort out these issues before my day ends.

Now, I take a break while some software updates in the background, and I sit here hoping that there aren’t any significant issues. But I won’t stress about it. I don’t have any stress left to give.

Everything works out in the long run.

These days happen.
