Sometimes people act strange. They aren’t themselves.
At times it’s obvious, other times it’s more subtle. But we encounter people all the time who aren’t acting in ways that we’re used to.
This is normal. People have off days.
But sometimes, it feels as though everyone is off. It’s as if you woke in an alternate dimension, some other node of the multiverse that’s the same as your’s in nearly every way, but not quite.
Most of the time, I feel this alone. And in all likelihood, it’s the result of myself having an off day and accusing the entire world around me of being strange. When it feels like everyone else is acting weird, the weirdo is probably you.
But on rare occasions, someone else shares it with me. It doesn’t happen often, but there’s always a relieving “You feel this too?” moment.
These types of days throw me off entirely. They’re so rare, but they happen. And it’s these days that truly make me question reality.
The feeling is neither good nor bad — just null. It’s an acceptance that I don’t understand how it all works. And I probably never will.
But this is what makes the human experience so interesting.
