Thaw

I ran this morning and by the end of it, my shoes were soaked in brown sludge.

Later, I went for a walk. It was aimless mostly, I stayed in back alleys when I could. The main roads were too wet. Countless times I was splashed in salty slush as cars and buses passed.

The problem with alleys is the cold water dripping from balconies.

It’s grey, it’s brown, it’s wet and it’s messy.

It’s beautiful.

The worst of winter’s weather seems behind us.

As the snow melts and everything becomes a sloppy mess, I take solace in the fact that this is the inevitability before the warmth and colours of the coming spring.
