Dear website owners: do better.

Look, I am fine with advertisements, I use them on some of my own websites. They’re a nice way to bring in a little passive income. For some people, ads are their entire income. I purposely don’t default to ad-blocking software because I am happy to help support you.

That said, the second your advertisements ruin my user experience, I am leaving your website. At best, I will turn on ad blocking just to spite you.

If I’m trying to get some simple information and have to dodge two popups and three video players to find it, I’m out.

If you’ve built something that earns you money while you sleep, I’m happy for you. Well done, that takes a lot of time, effort and patience — trust me, I understand. But when your need for profit restricts my ability to use your product, you don’t deserve my attention.
