Contradiction

If you aren’t contradicting yourself, you’re not growing.

Much like the Peter Thiel question I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, I’ve been exposed to ideas like this a lot. The idea that changing your perspective can shift opinions — and how that can be important in growth.

Lately, I’m finding it more and more relevant.

I recently started writing an article that seemed vaguely familiar, but also not. Looking back through my writings from several years back, I found that I’d written about the concept earlier. What surprised me was that I wrote it from a completely different view, my stance on the issue differed from what it is today.

The new article wasn’t entirely contradictory, but it was different. In the years since the original, something in my life has caused a shift in perspective. And whether or not my younger self would agree, it’s a sign of growth.
