Unavoidable

Every so often we have days where we’re alone with only the thoughts in our head. They’re typically slow days, quiet days, and usually at work when we can’t escape or distract ourselves in any meaningful way.

These days are rarely filled with pleasant thoughts. Too often they’re thoughts of past mistakes and regrets when our self-critic comes out in full swing.

We try and fight it but it only makes it worse.

Like with a sudden stomach bug, all we can do is suffer through and hope for it to pass.

And when it inevitably does, we feel lighter than before. There’s something healing about feeling the pain, and processing our past — even if subconsciously.
