EV Hippies

Electric vehicles are good for the environment, and this is why people drive them.

Not exactly.

True, they don’t run on gas. But they still require energy and, more often than not, that energy comes from hydrocarbons. Moreso, the lithium mining process is far from eco-friendly.

Using Teslas as an example, these things are rarely considered when people purchase one. A lot of people buy them because they believe that they’re helping. They focus on vehicle emissions without considering the larger picture.

Others don’t care at all, they drive the car because it’s trendy. It’s all about image.

But as far as I’m concerned, none of it matters. EVs, in some form or another, will eventually dominate the market.

Technology is constantly improving. And the internal combustion engine, as it currently stands, is archaic technology. The transition will be bumpy, and we’re a long way from it being the norm, but it’s coming.

I do not own an electric vehicle. But if — or when — I do, it won’t be for the environment, and it won’t be as a trend-chaser. It will be for the inevitability of progress.
